You want inner peace, and internal peace takes place. That means you don’t have to have the one hundred percent peace that you fantasized about. You will need something more subtle than that, and more real than this. But how do you have peace within this material world, anyway? Your reality has challenges, and these challenges are not going to go away. However, you can face them, and that gives you a clue. At first, you may feel some moments of anxiety, anxiety, despair, or some other natural reaction when you face your challenges. But here’s the trick to understanding this in a new level of awareness…

You have the choice to be conscious of your reaction. There is an wonderful power in noticing your response. You don’t have to have stuck in your own response, although It is possible to observe this emotional reaction. And you don’t have to fight with your response, either. Therefore, if you are not enmeshed on your emotional reaction, and if it isn’t being vigorously fought by you, then where can the peace come out of?

Peace is not the all-encompassing bliss-out state that many imagine. Actual peace is lively and alive. Peace, as you are coming to understand it, co-exists with this world. Peacefulness is the capacity while being present together with your reply. For instance: If you are focusing on your own work, and there’s a sound of a lawnmower outsideis that going to influence your own internal consciousness? Is the sound deflecting? Actually, it is somewhat distracting. However, is the sound literally currently preventing you? The noise is a challenge, but it is not currently preventing you from functioning. But what is keeping you out of your peace in this scenario?

The element affecting your internal condition is not the sound of the lawnmower. Yes, the sound is true slightly bothersome, but it isn’t totally distracting. But if the sound isn’t the principal issue, then what is the matter? The irritant is the response to the lawnmower noise. Your emotional response that troubles you’re your own inner voice. Your inner voice is saying something about the bothersome lawnmower. And what’s more, your inner voice is insisting that until the noise goes, you can not work. Let’s look at this, because the moment you recognize your inner self talk, that’s the moment that you get to peace.

Your inner voice is talking. It is always commenting in your reality. A number of yourself talk is useful, but much of it’s reactive answers out of your self, and these psychological or dramatic answers are unhelpful. To understand how to react to your self talk requires understanding something about the art of being centered.

The person that is centered can notice their self talk. They don’t deny their talk, but they do not give in to it. A power is in your having the ability to follow your self talk. It is this: After you listen without becoming wrapped up in the words — the internal voice feels fulfilled its concerns have been shared by it. You have listened to its dire warnings and it is pleased with that.

Now you recognize the ego voice’s purpose. It’s trying to assist you, but in its own, dramatic way that is neater. If you refused the existence of this voice that is dramatic and what could happen? That’s known as denial, and it generates another issue, as to avoid your inner voice, you have to suppress your aliveness. Suppressing your consciousness requires a great deal of energy, and that’s devitalizing — and it is obviously not peaceful.

This is a fun paradox — if you need inner peace, it needs to be present to your self talk, but not taking it seriously. And if you believed that internal peace was something that you would attain if your internal voice could be entirely blocked by you, think again. People attempt to block their self talk with alcohol or drugs. It doesn’t get the job done, and it’s side effects. So you can have peace that is true, but you’ve redefined it. You recognize that peace isn’t some state of ignorance concerning the world. Peace is your capability to experience something, to notice your response, and to continue breathing and doing anything you are doing.
